2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR
Hello and welcome to the Ferndale Area School District. My name is Lori Himes, and I have been the President of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) here at Ferndale for the past 8 years. I would like to give you a little information about our group. We meet once a month in the elementary school library from 6-7 P.M. (Dates will be listed on the school menu) Our first meeting this year will be on Monday Sept 10th. (We will no longer have our PTO meetings after our Market Day pick ups. They will be scheduled on a separate night.) Throughout the year we organize numerous events and fundraisers. In the fall we will have a T-shirt sale where we have many Ferndale items. Christmas time we have a movie with Santa as well as family movie nights throughout the school year. Our biggest fundraiser is a monthly sale for "Market Day" which is a frozen food sale! Order forms go home with the students, you order the food and pick it up at the school on the delivery dates. The PTO gets 10% of the total sales and it is a huge fundraiser for us. Good Prices and Great Food!! Below is a schedule of order pick up times and dates for Market Day. Pizza parties, teacher and staff appreciation gifts, 6th grade party and gifts, just to name a few of the things we do. We also participate in the "Apples for Education" program through Giant Eagle. Go onto gianteagle.com, click on enroll now and follow instructions. Every time you use your advantage card our school gets points. This past year I was able to get new headsets for the computer lab. The PTO collects Box Tops and Campbells Labels. In February, we have a big Box Tops Contest where your child can earn chances on some wonderful prizes!!! SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!! Last year we raised over $1300.00 in cash with Box Tops which is then put back into items for the school. The PTO will continue to collect Campbells Labels. We were able to get items for P.E. classes and balls, jump ropes and other items for the playground with our Campbell’s points. Finally, we sell and serve lunch to all the family and friends during "Fernstock" the big musical event at the end of the year.
We are a small group, but with your continued support and help we would like to expand!!!! We are in need of many more volunteers as well as officers. In the past the focus has been put on the Elementary School, but over the past couple years we have tried to become more involved in the High School as well. Last year we opened a school store in the High School cafeteria where we sell school supplies and Ferndale items. The PTO needs your help. Please come to our meetings and give your ideas, input, and show your support for our district!!!! We are getting better and better every year, but with your help we could make it unbelievable!!!!!
