Classrooms for the Future
Summary of Grant
Classrooms for the Future is about enabling teachers to use technology as an effective tool for educating students so they can become competitive workers in the global marketplace.
The grant will transform the way high school teachers teach and how students learn. Ferndale Area High School received over $99,000 of equipment in 2007 and $45,000 in 2008. This equipment is to be implemented in the senior high English, math, science and social studies programs. This equipment includes 6 mobile carts with 25 student laptops in each cart, 9 teacher laptops, 9 Promethean white boards, 11 printers, 9 projectors, web cams, digital cameras and video cameras.
Money was provided to have a Classroom Coach help train teachers and school leaders on how to best use the technology to increase student achievement and prepare them for college and the high-tech global market. The Classroom Coach is Mrs. Soohy.
The district may be eligible to apply for the grant again next year and if funded, more equipment will be added to the Classrooms for the Future program at Ferndale Area.
