Update on Continuity of Education Plans - 3-31-2020

Update on Continuity of Education Plans      3-31-2020

Good Afternoon.

A lot of information for you today…..

As you know, the Governor has announced that Pennsylvania schools will remain closed indefinitely.  This is why we must continue education for students using methods we have available to us.

Teachers are putting together lessons for K4-12 students over the next couple of days.

Elementary School staff will be reaching out to K4-6 parents/guardians via email—If you have not done so already, please email your child’s homeroom teacher and provide an email address you would like the teacher to use to contact you.  Please include a phone number where you can be reached during the day if necessary.  Teacher email can be accessed from the Ferndale Area Elementary home page—click on staff—then select your homeroom teacher’s name to send an email. (Click here to go to the Staff page now)  Note that the links went down 3/31 afternoon right after the OneCall phone call, but should be up and running by 4/1.

Junior-Senior HS staff will reach out to students through their school issued email account.  Parents should feel free to reach out to any secondary teacher via email.

Education will officially launch April 6.  Junior-Senior High School (grades 7-12) work will be done electronically.  More information will be coming later this week from Mr. Robison and your child’s teachers.  Elementary students (K4-6) will receive packets of work which will be delivered by staff on school busses on the p.m. bus runs once per week.   Please plan to be at your p.m. bus stop time to pick up books and packets on Monday, April 6.  More information will come to you from your child’s teacher and reminders will be sent via Onecall closer to April 6.

During Continuity of Education in the home, teachers will have “office hours” on Mondays through Thursdays (other than holidays) from 10a.m. to 2p.m.   You/your children will be able to connect with your teacher(s) during that time via email, zoom webinars, and other methods that your teacher(s) set up for communication.  They will make sure they can connect with all students.

The end of the third nine weeks will be Friday, March 13.  Reports cards will be mailed not before April 20, due to the Easter Holiday.

As per the district calendar, all staff will observe the Easter Holiday—no work and no teaching on April 10-11-12-13.

It has been determined that all seniors will finish school on Tuesday, June 1, 2020, as originally set on the district calendar.

All school activities (sports, field trips, plays, extra-curriculars, fundraisers, etc.) continue to be cancelled while school is closed.

Grab-and-go breakfast/lunch bags will continue to be distributed Mondays through Fridays at the designated sites in each municipality.  We are serving approximately 300 children daily.  We will continue to provide backpacks on Fridays for students who are enrolled in the back pack program.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Think Spring!

Stay healthy and practicing social distancing.

Check out your teachers videos that will be posted!  They truly miss you all.
