Update 5-25-2020 on the Ferndale Area High School Class of 2020 Commencement Activities
Upcoming events for Graduating Seniors are listed to keep our families and communities informed.
May 27 and 28 Seniors and family members are participating in formal Diploma Conferral Ceremonies at the Ferndale Area High School Auditorium. At individually scheduled times, graduates will march down the center aisle to Pomp and Circumstance, wearing their cap and gown, and traditional FASD graduate corsage. The stage will be adorned with our traditional ferns and peace lilies. Seniors will actually graduate from their FAHS stage! Family members will have front row seating to observe their senior receive his/her diploma from the Board President and Superintendent. This year, students will have the option to receive their diploma from their parents, if desired. There will be an opportunity for parents and family to take pictures. FASD will provide each graduate with a 5X7 professionally done picture.
June 1 is the original graduation date for our seniors. The Class of 2020 Graduation video produced with the Josten’s Company will air at 7p.m. in a special showing for Seniors and their families. Families can tune in from their homes to watch the full ceremony, which will include all parts of our traditional graduation. The ceremony will then be posted on the district website for all the public to view.
A videographer has been booked to film the diploma conferral ceremonies on May 27 and 28, to be used to create a production that will air on WJAC TV. Air time on the television will be released to us soon and we will share it with all, so that we can watch our graduates on a 30 minute TV segment.
We are all trying to make the best of the situation we are in right now, while staying safe and following all recommendations of the State Departments and our school Attorneys. Regardless of what other schools may do, FASD chooses to follow directives. We are the only local school having personal graduation diploma conferral ceremonies for each senior and their family, because our seniors and their families deserve it!
Note: When we are able to, based on PA Department of Health regulations, Ferndale Area High School will plan an activity to get all the graduating seniors together one last time, to celebrate the end of their high school days, commemorate their commencement, and look forward to the future.
