Elementary School Principal

Hello Ferndale Area Elementary School families! I am thrilled to return to FASD as your new Elementary Principal! My career in education includes over twenty years of teaching and administrative work. I have my Bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Masters in Special Education from Saint Vincent College, Principal K-12 Certificate from Indiana University of PA, and most recently I completed my Superintendent Letter of Eligibility at California University of PA.

My teaching career includes teaching regular and special education, both in North Carolina and locally at Westmont Hilltop School District where I taught second grade, Kindergarten, and 3rd/4th grade learning support, 5th/6th grade ELA, and gifted education. In addition, I served in a leadership position as the RtII Coordinator for several years at Westmont Hilltop Elementary School where I collaborated with teachers and families to design academic and behavioral intervention plans for students.

My administrative career spans from Birth-Gr. 12, as I spent almost five years supervising the Birth to Age 3 Early Intervention program at the Westmoreland ARC in Greensburg. There I worked with families and therapists to design Individualized Family Service Plans to align supports for their youngest children with developmental delays. From 2015-2019, I served as the Assistant Principal at Ferndale Area Jr. /Sr. High School where I worked with teachers and administrators on aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment for grades 3-12. From 2019-June 2022, I served as an Assistant Principal at Johnstown Elementary School. At JES my focus was to develop a tiered literacy program for all students in grades K-4 and building family engagement opportunities.

The highlight of my administrative career has been working with teachers at all levels to align curriculum and instruction, especially literacy, science, and mathematics, so that all students are taught a rigorous curriculum at their instructional level. Finally, on June 8, 2022, I was one of 33 fellows in the state of Pennsylvania to graduate from the Pennsylvania Education Policy Fellowship Program. I spent a year collaborating with fellows and leaders from across the state to learn the public policy process and the various aspects of education policy. I currently live in Westmont with my three children Liam, Emma, and Maggie. I can’t wait to meet all of your smiling faces this fall as I return to FASD as your biggest Yellow Jacket advocate and school leader!
